Middle school letters out

Written by Lindsey Whitton Christ @ 11:34 am

Families applying to middle school should have letters by now. Since the middle school admissions process varies widely by district, we are curious how smoothly it has gone across the city. A few of the preliminary reports we have heard have included bureaucratic mess-ups (inaccurate admissions letters, contradictory information from the Department of Education offices and individual schools, special education delays). While the DOE is no stranger to admissions-process-bungles, we are hoping these are isolated cases.

Have you gotten your letter yet?

  1. Many of the 5th graders from PS41 have yet to receive their letters as of today Monday June 1. Hopefully tomorrow. Does anyone know if the letters were sent out all at the same time?

  2. Having not received my letter Saturday I have been digging for an answer today. I placed a call to my local district admissions office and was told that letters were sent out late last week, including on Saturday and people should wait until after mail is delivered tomorrow, Tuesday, before contacting schools and district offices. Our school said they were told they would not have the answers in house until Wednesday and the district office said they would not have copies of the letters until tomorrow afternoon.

Here’s to good news all around!!!

  3. As of today, we also, have not received any news. We live in District 21, and about half of the children at my daughter’s class have received news about their placement for 6th grade with the other half waiting in limbo. Of these children most got into their first or second choice schools. I am now starting to wonder if no news means they were not matched to a school of their choice, and will now have to attend their zoned school. Ugh!

  4. We are in District 15 and got a letter in Saturday’s mail. Among my daughter’s friends, most got into their first or second choice schools but this is not a scientific sampling by any means.

  5. I’m also in District 15, and we all got word on Saturday. My son and most of his friends got their first choice. I know of only two kids who got bumbped to 2nd choices, for reasons I can’t discern.

  6. Another day has passed with no news on my daughter’s middle school placement in District 21. I placed a call to the Office of Enrollment, and they took all of my daughter’s information along with my phone number with a promise of a phone call by the supervisor. Have not received a phone call and I am now considering stopping by the Office of Enrollment tomorrow morning. I am not the only parent of a 5th grader in District 21 that has not received news.

  7. We’re in district 30 and got our 3rd choice. I know of one kid who got their 1st choice and several who were not matched to any of their choices and have to attend the zoned school. We got our letters on Saturday May 30th as well.
