District 15

With innovative programs, extremely active parents and parkside neighborhoods considered ideal for raising a family, District 15 has some of the most sought-after, competitive elementary schools in the city.

Bordering on tree-covered Prospect Park, District 15 runs from Carroll Gardens to Sunset Park, and includes the brownstone Brooklyn neighborhoods of Park Slope, Windsor Terrace and pockets of Boerum Hill and Fort Greene. The district also stretches into the waterfront Red Hook neighborhood near the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, home to housing projects, artist colonies and giant Ikea and Fairway stores.

Rezoning and the opening of a few new schools has eased overcrowding in Park Slope, although some Sunset Park schools still have long waitlists for children in the zone. Most zoned schools are performing well.
