TOPIC: Please help G&T ranking

Please help G&T ranking 1 year, 1 month ago #9745

My child has been accepted to the citywide and district G&T program. We are only considering one district school otherwise she will go to the Gen Ed K program at this school. Initially I submitted the G&T program ranking the one and only district school we are intersted in however a few neighbors have mentioned that we need to rank all district schools to be considered for out first choice otherwise the child's applications will be bumped out of the system. I called the Board of Ed and the representative basically read the instructions on the application and could not provide further detail. Do I need to rank all district schools or can i just rank the one program we are interested in.

You need to rank all schools ONLY if you want to be guaranteed a placement in a G&T. You don't need to rank all schools in order to have your first choice considered.

Hi, I have the same problem... I spoke to DOE, it is suggested for you to tour every school. Ranking the district program you like the most does not mean you will get in. Therefore, they suggest you to "rank" as such as you can. However, if you really don't like the program and/or have other issues, then don't rank it. its okay... However, by not ranking a district program is just one less chance for your kid to get into gifted program. But this is your own opinion. Hope this helps.

I have heard that if you just rank one school the DOE kicks you out of the system.

It's an urban legend. Since most people don't get their first choice, people seem to assume that they are being kicked out of the system. I tell my parents that if they really want a G&T school--even if there are a couple they don't want--to list all schools. If they really have their hearts set on only some but would be happier with their local school than other G&T schools, list only the ones they really want. For some, that means listing only one or two G&T schools. Don't worry about the system kicking you out. Do list all schools you would be satisfied with, though.

Do you work for the DoE? How do you know it is an Urban Legend?
DO you know how the wait list works? If i choose schools I do not want I don't have a chance to be wait listed for the school I do want
