We're moving to NYC January 2013 for a 6-month sabbatical. There is a very nice apartment available in Boerum Hill, and we need to make a decision quickly. My son is going into grade 5. He is now in a gifted program (We live in Calgary, Canada). The zoned neighborhood school is ps 38. None of the other schools in the area will accept (or guarantee acceptance) in January.
Does anyone have information about PS 38 or other options? A private school is not an option for us.
Stay away. The school has no discipline and the kids run the roost. I was a teacher there and saw some crazy things that went unpunished. The principal is known to be a liar and was even written up in the major New York newspaper in a scandal trying to bully the teachers to give her a good rating. If you don't believe me look at her rating on the Internet. On questions about her, for example is she honest, does she run a good school, etc. she gets about a three on the scale of 1 to 10. Also keep your wife away from the parent coordinator. According to the students, he hits on their mothers. I've heard him brag about his conquests with moms to other teachers. .
