If you are a NYC resident under the age of 21 you have the right to attend public school here. It would be difficult - if not impossible -for you to matriculate into a school before you move here. Once you move the city then you would need to go to the regional office close to where you live (we have a list of them in our Where to Get Help section) to get a placement. Depending upon your age and grade, you might be able to take a test or audition for one of the specialized science and math or arts schools. Take a look at our Basic Information section about registering and applying for high schools. There are also international schools in the city that admit students who are not proficient in English. YOu may read the profiles of those and other public schools in our FInd a School section.
