Your independent guide to NYC public schools

Hi,

I'm the mother of a 7th grader and we're focused on getting him into a specialized high school or other good non-specialized public high school, preferably in Brooklyn or Manhattan. I heard from another mom that some of the city high schools offer summer programs for 7th graders and they can be helpful as far as giving the kid an "in" with the school. Does anyone know of any such program? I haven't finalized my son's summer plans other than thinking he'll go to an SHSAT test prep class starting in August and continuing into the fall.
