TOPIC: Transfer from another country

Transfer from another country 1 year ago #9778

My 16 year old stepson is moving in this summer. He is transferring from a private school in Mexico City. I know it's late. Can someone recommend some schools they think are more amenable to foreign students? He's a good student english fluent and a great soccer player.

You don't state which neighborhood you live in, however, the best bet is to try a large zoned for high school; these offer good support for international students and field many strong sports teams, traditionally. In Queens, good choices would be the following: Forest Hills HS, Bayside, Francis Lewis, and Carodozo; in Brooklyn, Midwood. Otherwise, in the past, some student athletes in higher grades have been able to transfer into Beacon, in Manhattan. The school is a strong contender in athletics. Lastly, you could look into new high schools, which often will accept students from across the City, or across a Boro, for at least the first few years of their existence.

I can tell you that the Queens high schools I noted above are very good schools. But if I had to pick, I would recommend either Forest Hills (because it is convenient for public transportation) or Bayside (because it is less crowded than the other Queens schools noted and has wonderful sports facilities, including a pool.

Good luck!
