TOPIC: how do I apply to a non-zoned middle school?

how do I apply to a non-zoned middle school? 1 year, 5 months ago #9385

Hi all:
Our zoned J.H. school is not good. Now if we apply for a middle school out of our zoned, are we supposed to be on a waiting list? Also, if we don't put down our zoned school as 1st choice, if non-zoned school did not accept, are we still have chance to be placed in the gifted class?

Each district has its own procedure for applying to middle school. Some are strict adherents to admitting zoned kids, others are open to the whole district. You have to read the directory for your district. However, there are some middle schools that are open to non-zoned students from the district, borough and/or city. They are listed in the middle school directory You apply to those schools separately on a different application (with the exception of Mark Twain, which goes on your application.) Check out your district's requirements. I apologize if this is too late to be of use this year.

Does the annual result of the school and performance matters while getting permission or approval?

If you are talking about annual performance of the school, based on school report cards and surveys, that should factor into your decision to choose a school. If you are talking about your child's grades, they are part of the school's decision to choose child.
