Your independent guide to NYC public schools

Can anyone help me with ideas for preparing for interviews at Lab and School of the Future?
I dont want to drive my son nuts, but it would be great to know what to expect. Any help gratefully appreciated.

As a School social worker I do mock interviews with 5th graders preparing for the MS interviews. One thing we stress is the importance of 1st impression - eye contact, manners, attire, etc. Also - helping the students to coherently express their future goals (not to lie, but prioritize - if you're applying to a selective MS, perhaps your goal of becoming a "famous basketball player" should not be the 1st one you mention); also - realistic portrayal of their strengths and weaknesses, both personal and academic. and...all modesty aside, how to present yourself in a positive light (many kids have a hard time with this one)

I helped prepare a girl for her SOF high school interview. I gave her questions which I thought they might ask form my own kids past experiences and had her write them down so she wouldn't forget. Then I had her think about them that night for the interview the following day. She did well. It was her first interview. It helped that she wasn't my kid. Ask a friend to help you. Kids respond better to non parent adult suggestions.
