Your independent guide to NYC public schools

My girlfriend and her daughter just moved to NYC from California. We need a middle school for her in District 30. She will be starting 8th grade. This was a last-minute decision and I'm looking for tips on how to get her into a school at this point. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Please see InsideSchools' link to District 30 office and superintendent (see above). You can also try searching from InsideSchools' home page on District 30 schools. To do so, place your cursor on the map, and select "District 30." This will give you all middle schools in the District.

One excellent choice would be Louis Armstrong, but this school generally is entered by lottery, at the 5th or 6th grade level, from applicants across Queens. Nevertheless, you would lose nothing by at least calling the school, to see what the procedure might be for 8th grade entry. They must have some seats that open up from kids moving away. Lastly, if your child is talented in ballet, Ballet Tech also accepts students Citywide; the school goes up thru high school. You could contact them for audition procedures over the summer. Info on the school is available on InsideSchools, as well as a link to the school's website.
