Our Insights

Global Enterprise High School was founded in September 2003 with the goal of offering students a preview of the business world. Housed in Christopher Columbus High School, it was part of the New Century High School initiative designed to create small, intimate schools within large school buildings.

The school was moderately successful at first, graduating 71 percent of it first class on time in 2007. But it was plagued by high rates of chronic absenteeism and declining graduation rates and in 2011 The Department of Education decided to close it for poor performance. No new students were admitted but those who were already enrolled were permitted to stay until 2014, when the phase out was complete.
