District 20

District 20 covers the southwest corner of Brooklyn, near the Verrazano Bridge, and includes the residential neighborhoods of Borough Park, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and the southern section of Sunset Park as well as the Fort Hamilton army base. Quiet streets are lined with single and two and three family homes and tidy yards. Although once known for its large Italian and Norwegian populations, the district is now home to Brooklyn's Chinatown and many new immigrants from Asia, Latin America and the former USSR. Long a high-performing district with sought after schools, the increasing district population has caused overcrowding in some schools, especially the popular Fort Hamilton High School.
