District 22

District 22 is a huge district that stretches from Ditmas Park in central Brooklyn with its grand Victorian mansions to the quiet seaside community of Mill Basin on Jamaica Bay. Although the quality of the schools differs greatly from one end of the district to another, the schools are mostly stable and high-performing. Until the 2008 changes in the city's gifted and talented admissions process, every elementary school had its own G&T program, which was popular with district residents. The district serves diverse immigrant populations with many different languages spoken in some neighborhood schools.
