District 6

District 6 includes northern Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood. It is bordered by the Harlem River to the North and East and the Hudson River on the West. Its southern border is at 163rd Street. The district is dense and overcrowded, with a predominance of immigrants, as well as newcomers who are reviving the middle-class housing stock. Some newly built schools relieve overcrowding, and the district is home to Mott Hall, a competitive middle school that begins in 4th grade. Among the institutions in the area are New York-Columbia Presbyterian Hospital Center, the Kingsbridge Armory, Yeshiva University, and Fort Tryon Park, which houses The Cloisters.
