One of three citywide gifted programs and the only one to serve children in grades K-12, New Explorations into Science, Technology & Math (NEST) offers challenging and engaging classes in a sparkling, sunny building with wide halls and classrooms arranged around a central courtyard. Some students enter in kindergarten; others enter in 6th grade, when the number of students doubles from 60 to about 125, still others in 9th grade. In the past there have been a significant number of openings for 9th graders as some 8th graders go on to specialized high schools. Other grades occasionally have seats as well.
