The Department of Education announced that IS 166 will begin to phase out in June 2009. IS 166 will not admit an incoming 5th grade, but current students in the grades 6-7 will continue at the school as it phases out by 2011. Fifth-graders will be given first priority to enroll in the new middle school, the Science and Technology Academy, which will open in the building, along with the Grant Avenue Elementary School, in September 2009. The Bronx Early College Academy, a 6-12 school, will also move into the IS 166 building in September. |
