PS 58 went through a major "confusion," Gault said, when the former principal, Joyce Plush Saly left the school early in 2006 following a Department of Education investigation that concluded there was a breach in the standardized English Language Arts exam on her watch. (Students had seen passages on a practice test that ended up being on the actual exam.) Gault succeeded her in March of that year, after having worked as assistant principal at nearby PS 29. She has since worked on rebuilding confidence in the school, and now, with the partnership of her assistant principal, "we have really gotten parents to trust us," she said. |
