One of three 6-12 schools in the John Jay Educational Complex, the Secondary School for Journalism offers middle and high-school students a structured environment. Journalism joins the Secondary School for Research and the Secondary School for Law in the former John Jay High School, which was closed because of low performance. The old school's shadow still lingers, most notably in the metal detectors and routine scanning of students and visitors.
