Serving more than 3,200 students, Harry S. Truman High School is a large but safe school, where teachers take turns monitoring the hallways, and students grouped in different "houses" can specialize in law, television production, culinary arts, carpentry, engineering, business, or ROTC. While many neighborhood high schools in the Bronx have been closed for poor performance and replaced by small schools, Truman has remained intact, in part, by its administration's success in attracting kids with new specialized programs.. . .
