John F. Kennedy is one of the city's largest high schools, with 4,000 students and a building that houses eight floors, complete with escalators. Though on the books the school has 30-34 students per class, attendance is closer to 20-25 kids. Some of this may be the result of delays caused by the extensive, hi-tech security scanning kids undergo before they are allowed to enter the building. On our visit, however, we noticed tardiness, hallway loitering, and many empty classroom seats well past second period. The principal, who is. . .
