Set on the campus of Kingsborough Community College at the far edge of Brooklyn, Leon Goldstein High School for the Sciences is a long subway trek from the rest of New York City. But its location near the sea means that nearly every classroom in the recently-constructed building has expansive views of light, water, and changing sky. On the day we visited, some art studios were lit by natural light alone; other classrooms, flooded with daylight, drew their shades against the brilliant outdoors.
