Aviation High School is the largest Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) sponsored high school program in the country. Nearly 12 percent of all U.S. licensed aviation technicians have graduated from Aviation, which opened in 1925 as a part-time vocational program. Now it's a fulltime CTE (Career and Technical Education) school. Students fulfill the academic requirements for a Regents diploma while simultaneously earning FAA certification in aircraft engine structure or maintenance, or both if they enroll in the school's optional fifth year program.
