At the School for Human Rights, which opened with 6th and 9th grade classes in September 2004, Principal Kevin Dotson plasters his door with pictures of humanitarian leaders, such as the Dalai Lama. His notion of a hero, which he hopes to pass on to his students, is a "champion of human rights," a person who continually contributes to society, not a one-time giver. "My vision is that the kids can see themselves as these people," Dotson says. |
