Khalil Gibran International Academy is a dual-language school that affords students the opportunity to learn Arabic culture and language. Opened in September 2007, it is the city's first Arabic language school. Beginning in September 2010, Khalil Gibran will expand by one grade level per year, eventually serving grades 6-12. The school has had a tumultuous first few years, with three administration changes in as many years. In 2009, the school moved from a location in Boerum Hill to its current location in PS 287, in Fort Greene.
