Housed in a three-story, 1960s modern-style building, PS 59 has fewer than 400 children. The school has just two straight corridors (one on each floor, plus the cafeteria on the ground floor) so even the littlest kids can find their way around in their first days of school. Classes have rugs, rich classroom libraries, and cozy reading areas; a few even have sofas. As the school has grown, it has taken over a few classrooms in the adjacent High School of Art and Design, separated from the main PS 59 building by a playground. |
