Located in an 88-year-old building that looks a bit like a castle and occupies an entire city block, MS 98 is a low performing school seeking to turn itself around.

Former principal Alan Geller, who retired in August 2005, was a no-nonsense administrator. On our visit, he told us that the building was severely messy when he arrived in 2000: floors and walls were dirty, and graffiti was part of the landscape.
