Rich arts programs, honors classes, and a strong teaching staff make MS 88 an increasingly attractive alternative to District 15's selective MS 51. Once avoided by parents with other choices, MS 88 now draws students from highly regarded elementary schools such as PS 130 and MS 154. The school has hired warm, enthusiastic young faculty members. Several MS 88 alumni are also on staff. Test scores have been steadily increasing, even if they still have a long way to go. The school received an "A" on the Department of Education's 2007 progress report, reflecting student progress on standardized tests from 2006 to 2007.
