Situated in a predominantly Caribbean-American community in the Carnarsie section of Brooklyn, PS 244 is housed in a large building comprised of two wings, one built in 1934 and the other in 1995. Inside the school is immaculate the floors shine, the brass railings in the entrance are polished. Accommodating approximately 1,100 students, including a substantial number of students receiving special education services, PS 244 offers an impressive array of facilities including a library, auditorium, dance room, art room, music room, math lab, computer lab, gym, an adaptive physical education room (for physically challenged students) and an elevator (in the new wing). Outside, the school has several yards, including one equipped with a series of steel drums for children to play during recess.
