Teachers at PS 234 believe children need unstructured time to explore by themselves. Although time is available to children, there's plenty of time for more formal lessons in reading and math and PS 234's test scores are among the highest in the city. But teachers believe children learn best by doing things with their hands, by visiting interesting places, and by researching the answers to questions that interest them.
