PS 209, one of a handful of K-8 schools in District 21, serves a cross-section of local kids, from the tykes who trundle into the morning and afternoon pre-kindergarten to the gangly 8th graders at suddenly-too-small desks. In addition to providing core academics and generous nurturing, the school brings a sizeable contingent of non-native English speakers--up to a third of its students--into proficiency, over time.
