Glendale is a closely-knit community that remains much as it has for years, with attractive one- or two-family homes inhabited by descendants of Italian and German settlers teachers, blue-collar workers, and city employees. People who grow up in Glendale tend to stay, so it's not surprising that many parents send their children to the same middle school they attended:  IS 119.

In 2008 the school welcomed a new principal, Dr. Jeanne Fagan, who introduced initiatives to improve educational standards for students at all academic levels.
