Opened in September 2000 to relieve overcrowding in nearby IS 145, MS 230, built to house 700 students, is today itself so overcrowded that it operates on double sessions and must hold four lunch periods a day. Despite this, the school is calm, as evidenced by the relatively quiet changes of class we saw, when Principal Sharon Terry urged stragglers to hurry--and they listened.
