The Department of Education announced that Bayard Rustin will close due to poor performance, graduating its last class in June 2012. In September 2009, established Landmark HS and the newly-opening Manhattan Business Academy will join Humanities Prep and James Baldwin at Bayard Rustin HS. A statement issued by the DOE cited the school's low graduation rate, the F on its latest report card, and low student interest in attending the school as factors in its phase-out. The Bayard Rustin building has been renamed the High School for the Humanities Educational Complex. |
