Our Insights

KAPPA V is modeled after the well-regarded KIPP Academy Charter School in the Bronx. KAPPA stands for "Knowledge and Power Preparatory Academy," and the school “stresses high academic expectations in a supportive atmosphere with rewards for high achievement,” according to the middle school directory.

Opened in 2004, KAPPA V is housed in a wing of former JHS 275, a large school that was closed for poor performance. KAPPA V shares a building with an elementary school, Leadership Prep Brownsville Charter School, and two transfer high schools for older students.

Admissions: Open to students from Brooklyn. Open houses are held in October and November.
