What’s Special

Internships at Bronx hospitals

The Downside

Poor attendance, low graduation rate

Bronx Career and College Preparatory High School aims to blend academics with real-life experiences to prepare students for college and the world of work. Students may have internships at Montefiore and Jacobi hospitals, according to the school’s yearly plan. Professionals visit the school to describe their careers to children, such as during the "speed mentoring" event shown in the photo above [NYCFC Facebook photo]. Teachers responding to school surveys say the principal, Julia Baly, is an effective manager.

However, this small school suffers from poor attendance and a low graduation rate. The quality of teaching, while improving, is uneven, according to the school’s Quality Review.

The school shares a former middle school building with Bronx Latin and the Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health and Science Charter School. (Clara Hemphill, web reports, May 2018)
