Our Insights

One World Middle School at Edenwald is a small middle school that opened in 2011 in the Eastchester neighborhood of the Bronx. Their mission includes “creating a respectful environment where diversity is celebrated and individuals learn and flourish by developing character, intellect, wellness and a desire for lifelong learning,” according to its website

Teachers say that the school is orderly and well-run by principal Patricia Wynne, according to School Survey results. City reviewers gave One World the highest marks possible across the board for their most recent Quality Review in 2015-16.

Test scores have followed suit, rising over the past few years to just above the District 11 average, according to the 2017-18 School Performance Dashboard.  English learners in particular do well on their state math tests, and are the focus of the school’s efforts to increase the number of students taking and passing high school Regents exams, according to the Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP).

One World offers a NEST program for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and partners with the Montefiore Community Health Clinic to help meet the needs of all their students and families. Arts and enrichment are provided through organizations like ETM and Broadway Jr. to learn musical instruments, perform on Broadway, and take trips to historically black and Ivy League colleges, according to the CEP.

The school shares a building with Baychester and Bronx Alliance Middle Schools.

Admissions: Open to all students living in District 11. (Nicole Mader, web reports, May 2019)
