Good question, Elise. Students at schools that close entirely can register at other zoned schools (or even at the new school that opens in their former school facility), and many schools phase out instead of shutting down (esp. high schools). But I'm not sure if any lottery priority is conferred, will check.

If your zoned school is being phased out do you receive any sort of priority in the lottery for other schools (for example in district three).

Katya, the plan to open two new citywide elementary schools (in Brooklyn and Queens) has not been scrapped, not at all -- I checked in with Andy Jacob of DOE last week, asking about siting the new schools, and while they don't yet know where they will be housed (##$$!!), the plan is still going forward, as far as we know, to open the two new citywides. The confusion may be because DOE announced new/renovated buildings -- the citywides may go into existing school buildings, especially in their early years, so may not be part of this new-schools announcement. (It's more of a new/updated facilities announcement than actual new schools.)

How about the new citiwides? Didn't they promises to open 2 new citiwides this year - 1 in Brooklyn and 1 in Queens? Has that plan now been scrapped?
