The supplementary round is back and my daughter was accepted to a school. The letter should have said "congratulations you have been excepted to a new school that you have never heard about, does not exist yet and that you did not apply to". This is insane and the worst part is that this happened to my daughter for middle school. She has felt rejected twice and has been placed in schools that she did not apply to. HELP!!!! Now I have to appeal, but I wont find anything out until June. I am lost.

My son was accepted at his fifth choice for High School. He was disappointed because he really wanted to go to at least one of his first three choices. I do not like how they are chosing these high schools for these kids now, they are given/accepted by only one high school, no options to choose from. It would have been better if they were matched/accepted by two or three schools which they will have an option to choose from. This system needs fix!

I do not think this computer that match your child to a school is a really effective process. I would like to see all the schools that my child was matched to to be able to pick which location works best with her needs acdemically and soically not just one school and you have to live with that. My child is a A student was not matched to her Frist through thrid choice school but yet her fourth school.

My son got into his first choice, CSI HS in Staten Island. I'm surprised, The Scholars Academy at Wagner still has space, but some of his friends didn't get in even though they were eligible...

My daughter, thankfully, got into one of the high schools on her list. We live in Brooklyn and I looked at the Brooklyn schools with space left just to see what was available. If I were in the position of having to choose a school from that list, I would probably try Abraham Lincoln. I know they have some very good programs there and I have always heard good things about the photography program which looks like it has some seats. I have also always been impressed with Brooklyn High School of the Arts when I have had occasion to go there. It seems very orderly and well run which is at least a prerequisite for any school. I also was talking today with a colleague who has been doing some work at Lyons Community School and she was very positive about the teachers there. She says they are very nurturing and caring and view the students as individuals. I see that Fort Hamilton and Madison both have seats left in their zone. I don't really know what this means. Can you get one of those seats now if you don't live in the zone? I think both of those high schools, although large, have a lot to offer. I hope this might help someone looking for a school in Brooklyn.

Martha, it's best to contact the schools directly for audition information. Last year, at least one school scheduled an 'official' audition date and had to reschedule, so it's always best to confirm dates and times with the schools. Good luck, and if you can go to the fair, be sure ask the representatives of your daughter's second-choice school about her second-round application.

My child was not matched with any of her choices. The oddest part is that her 2nd choice school still has available seats. Her 7th grade grades were between A's and B's in a pretty competitive middle school so I'm still trying to figure it out. The guidance counselor assigned to her school is not very helpful, so I appear to be on my own. Does anyone know if the schools in the supplementary round that require auditions will post the dates anywhere or if I have to contact them directly?

There is a new HS opening this fall on the upper west side of Manhattan called something like HS of International Studies, I think. It is around 84th and Columbus and is being started in coordination with the Asia Society, and based on how hard the pricipal pursued us I think they were having trouble filling up. If my daughter hadn't matched anywhere I would be pushing for a spot there. Maybe give that a try, it looks pretty good.
