Happy Dragon Children and Family Center

At Happy Dragon, children are encouraged to draw and write and learn in an age-appropriate way, according to NYC school's Chancellor Carmen Farina, who visited the center in 2014. The majority of the children speak Cantonese or Mandarin.

The school makes sure all three languages are in each classroom, through teachers' and teaching assistants, according to a New York Daily News article.

The center does a "good job of hiring teachers," Farina wrote in a letter following her visit. Classrooms have a nice selection of books and kids focus on specific authors and themes. Teachers make sure kids learn how to be independentfor example, they serve themselves lunch instead of teachers serving lunch.(Lydie Raschka, web reports, July 2016)
