District 10
District 10 stretches from the hilly, leafy reaches of Riverdale and Wave Hill, with its huge houses and pristine apartment buildings overlooking the Hudson River, downhill to some of the city's most run-down and dilapidated neighborhoods in the central Bronx. One of the most overcrowded districts in the city, District 10 is also the top-performing district in the Bronx with a strong gifted middle school program, several unzoned elementary schools, and the borough's two specialized high schools: Bronx Science and the High School of American Studies at Lehman College. The district also houses Montefiore Children's Hospital.
District contacts
Each district has a superintendent, and a family advocate who is charged with responding to parents' concerns.
In addition, parents in each district elect a Communty Education Council (CEC), an advisory panel, to represent them. CEC members have little formal power but some are effective advocates for parents.
