Search for a school in District 8
District 8 is a racially mixed district in the southeast corner of the Bronx. The western edge of the district includes some of the poorest neighborhoods in the city, such as Hunts Point, while the eastern and northern edge includes more suburban settings, such as Throgs Neck and Soundview, which have a mix of modest single-family homes, low-income housing projects and expensive condominiums.
The district is home to one of the most acclaimed schools in the city, PS 69, which boasts a flourishing vegetable garden, archery and etiquette classes. PS 304 in Throgs Neck is also popular, and has a long history of academic achievement, as does PS 152, which offers trips to museums and farms, science experiments and plenty of time for creative play.
Located in a pleasant residential neighborhood in Throgs Neck, MS 101 attracts children from across District 8, offering a faster pace for children in the gifted program as well as intensive reading help for children who need it.
Each district has a superintendent and a family advocate who is charged with responding to parents' concerns. In addition, parents in each district elect a Communty Education Council (CEC), an advisory panel, to represent them. CEC members have little formal power but some are effective advocates for parents.
