District 13

Encompassing the upscale townhouses of Brooklyn Heights, the projects of Fort Greene, and the rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods of Clinton Hill and Bedford Stuyvesant, District 13 serves an increasingly diverse population. Home to Brooklyn Tech, one of the premiere high schools in the city and several smaller boutique high schools - the district's elementary and middle schools have long been considered poor stepchildren to nearby District 15. New leadership at several neighborhood schools and the opening of two well-regarded charter schools, is helping to change that picture. The district is home to cultural institutions including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Mark Morris Dance Group, and Long Island University.

District contacts

Each district has a superintendent, and a family advocate who is charged with responding to parents' concerns.
In addition, parents in each district elect a Communty Education Council (CEC), an advisory panel, to represent them. CEC members have little formal power but some are effective advocates for parents.
