Samuel Gompers CTE High School closed in 2015. For school records, call the Department of Education at (718) 935-2399 or (718) 935-2009.

The building now houses three other schools. Health, Education and Research Occupations (H.E.R.O.) High School, Mott Haven Community High School, a transfer school for older students, and New Visions Charter High School for the Humanities II.

Built in 1933 as the Samuel Gompers Industrial High School for Boys, the historic building has lovely architecture but the school long struggled against the realities of life in a rough neighborhood. In later years, the Tiffany chandeliers lamps were masked to protect against theft and bars were placed on all windows to keep vocational technical instruments from vanishing. The Department of Education decided to close Gompers after years of poor performance.
