Stable leadership, marching band

The Downside

School may be too large for some

A large zoned middle school, JHS 201 has stable leadership, an experienced staff, and an orderly atmosphere. It has a marching band as well as programs in drama, studio art and chorus.

Robert Ciulla, an assistant principal who himself graduated from the school in 1990, has been principal since 2013. He gets high marks from teachers, who consistently recommend the school to prospective parents.

Madeleine Brennan, the longest-serving principal in New York City public school history, served the school from 1963 until her retirement in June 2013. 

Admissions: Students living anywhere in District 20 may apply to the superintendents' program and are admitted according to their academic record. All students who live in the attendance zone are guaranteed a seat in the school. (Clara Hemphill, DOE data, January 2019)
