District 13
District 13 is one of the most racially and economically diverse districts in the city. Schools here have embraced restorative justice to help students solve conflicts by talking and taking responsibility. All District 13 middle schools use a lottery-based, screen-free admissions process. They also prioritize about half their seats for students from low-income families, English learners, or those in temporary housing,
The Academy of Arts & Letters (K-8) in Clinton Hill is notable for its arts-rich curriculum and impressive NYC state test scores—well above city averages in both math and reading. P.S. 8 Emily Warren Roebling (K-5) in Brooklyn Heights offers a dual-language French-English program. MS 313 Dock Street (6-8) in DUMBO offers a rigorous college-prep, STEAM curriculum, and students receive instrumental and vocal music lessons.
Children from schools across the city visit the district's many cultural institutions including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Mark Morris Dance Group, Long Island University, Theatre for New Audience, Mocada African art museum and BRIC.
