DOE offers October IEP workshops

The Department of Education is holding a series of sessions in October for parents of students with special needs to explain the new electronic IEP forms which outlines the services a student should be getting.

These meetings are an opportunity to voice concerns and ask questions directly of the DOE about the new forms and how they tie into the city's initiative to improve educational experiences and outcomes for students with disabilities. The roll-out of the special education reform policies, piloted in 267 city schools in 2010-2011, has been postponed until next year but some of the changes are already in place, such as the new IEP forms.

There are morning and evening meetings in every borough, Oct. 4-27. See the schedule after the jump below or check the DOE's website for a list of a commonly asked questions and answers. (See also Advocates for Children back to school guide for special needs families.)
