Workshop Details
SESSION 1: PARENT RIGHTS: A PASSPORT TO EFFECTIVE SERVICES FOR ELLS
This workshop will provide parents with information and resources to ensure that their children receive appropriate
services within NYC | NYS schools to support their academic success, as well as emotional and mental well-being.
SESSION 2: HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR K-8TH GRADE NEWCOMER STUDENT IN NYC | NYS SCHOOLS?
In New York State, parents are expected to play a central role in their child's elementary and middle school education. We will address some of these expectations and ways parents of newcomers can advocate for and support their children in and out of the classroom.
SESSION 3: PARENTS OF ELLs & ELL HIGH SCHOOL SENIORs | NYC | NYS HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMNTS AND THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS
In this workshop, we will review and discuss:
• High School Graduation Requirements in New York State
• Appealing a Regents Score
• Meet with the School Counselor
o Review your child’s transcript
o Confirm your child is on track to graduate in June or August of 2025
• Multiple Pathways to complete high school graduation requirements
• The College Application Process
Inside Schools will also be providing information to help parents of ELLs with the NYC public schools applications for grades 3K/PK.
This workshop series is limited to 70 participants.
