Gifted & Talented offer letters will be mailed by June 17, according to a letter sent to principals today by the Department of Education. Families who applied online will receive the letter by email; others by regular mail.

Notice comes later than last year when letters were sent on June 4 and children were registered by June 18. This year the registration is during the last full week of school, June 20-24.

Once families receive a school assignment, they should contact schools to arrange a time for pre-registration. Parents must bring  proof of birth, proof of address, immunization records, and, if the child is not already enrolled in a public school, the child must come along too.

This year 4,000 children qualified for either a citywide or district kindergarten program; 1877 1st-graders qualified. G&T placements are anxiously awaited now not only by families whose children qualified, but for parents of incoming kindergartners who are still waitlisted at schools around the city and hope that seats will be freed up by students choosing a G&T program.

We're still waiting for a breakdown of how many students qualified in each district, and of how many children scored in the 99th percentile. We'll post updates when we get them.
