On June 6, 2024, InsideSchools joined the Rally for Immigrant Students, organized by the New York Immigration Coalition, to advocate for more resources and schools for immigrant students. Among the speakers was Mamadou Aliou Labe Diallo, a volunteer with Afrikana and InsideSchools, who works with newly arrived migrants, helping them enroll in school and secure food, housing and employment opportunities. The following are Mamadou's full remarks in English and French:

Let me introduce myself, I am Mamadou Aliou Labe Diallo, a volunteer with Afrikana and InsideSchools. These two organizations work tirelessly to help immigrants integrate into the educational system despite the difficulties and complex processes they must face.

Immigrants encounter numerous obstacles, including language barriers, differences in educational systems, and variations in educational levels. My determination to help them, with the support of Afrikana in collaboration with InsideSchools, is something I am proud of. It is not easy to support or assist older individuals in finding a public school to study the language or continue their studies.

Immigrants come to Afrikana for help in finding a school. However, due to the language barrier and differences in the educational system, they often encounter difficulties. We do our utmost to integrate them into courses suited to their needs.

Some key elements that are often important in supporting this population include:

  • Providing personalized guidance and mentorship to understand their unique needs and goals
  • Helping them overcome practical obstacles such as transportation - Connecting them with comprehensive services and social supports to address non-academic challenges
  • Advocating on their behalf with educational institutions to ensure access and necessary accommodations
  • Celebrating their successes and maintaining encouragement throughout the process

We must also thank Maricruz [Badia-Cestero]* in particular, who is fully attentive and spares no effort for us young immigrants, giving us the best of themselves with an open heart so that we succeed.

Together, with Afrikana and InsideSchools, we do everything possible to offer immigrants the opportunity for an education and a better future.

Je me présente, je suis Mamadou Aliou Labe Diallo, volontaire au sein des organisations Afrikana et InsideSchools. Ces deux entités travaillent sans relâche pour aider les immigrants à intégrer le système éducatif malgré les difficultés et les processus complexes qu'ils doivent affronter.

Les immigrants rencontrent de nombreux obstacles, parmi lesquels la barrière de la langue, les différences dans les systèmes éducatifs, et les variations dans les niveaux d'études. Ma détermination à les aider, avec le soutien d'Afrikana en collaboration avec InsideSchools, est une chose dont je suis fier. Il n'est pas facile de soutenir ou d'aider les plus âgés à trouver une école publique pour étudier la langue ou continuer leurs études.

Les immigrants viennent à Afrikana pour obtenir de l'aide afin de trouver une école. Cependant, en raison de la barrière linguistique et des différences dans le système éducatif, ils rencontrent souvent des difficultés. Nous faisons tout notre possible pour les intégrer dans des cours adaptés à leurs besoins.

Quelques éléments clés souvent importants pour soutenir cette population incluent:

  • Fournir un accompagnement personnalisé et un mentorat pour comprendre leurs besoins et objectifs uniques
  • Les aider à surmonter les obstacles pratiques comme les transports - Les mettre en relation avec des services globaux et des soutiens sociaux pour aborder les défis non académiques
  • Plaider en leur nom auprès des établissements d'enseignement pour assurer l'accès et les aménagements nécessaires
  • Célébrer leurs succès et maintenir l'encouragement tout au long du processus.

il faut aussi remercier Maricruz [Badia-Cestero]* en particulier qui a toute son attention et qui ne ménage aucun effort pour nous jeunes immigrés en nous donnant le meilleur de lui même avec un coeur ouvert pour qu’on réussisse

Ensemble, avec Afrikana et InsideSchools, nous faisons tout notre possible pour offrir aux immigrants l'opportunité d'une éducation et d'un avenir meilleur.
