The summer exam for newcomers to New York City seeking September entrance to one of the specialized high schools will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31 rather than on Monday, Aug. 29 as originally scheduled. The Department of Education decided to reschedule the admissions test known as SHSAT "due to Hurricane Irene and uncertainty over travel conditions."

The exam is offered only to incoming 9th and 10th-graders who moved to New York City after Nov. 1 and could not take the exam last year. Registration closed on Aug. 24.
